Episode #112 – Celebrating 30 years of the FMLA : Teresa McQueen

In today’s episode, Teresa discusses FMLA, Family Medical Leave Act. FMLA provides federally protected leave for eligible employees for up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave per year and certain military family leave entitlements. FMLA applies to private sector employers who employs 50+ employees for at least 20 workweeks in the current or preceding calendar year.

Topics discussed:

  • Employees must comply with the employer’s notice for requesting leave or being absent.
  • Employers are required to notify employees of their eligibility.
  • The employer can require certification of the need for leave as appropriate based on the type of leave.
  • Recertification
